Our Story, Our Neighborhood

Born in St. Paul and raised on Grand Avenue, owner Todd Russell is a local guy bringing new energy to the street he grew up on. Inspired by his many travels experiencing good food, good service, and good times, Russell’s Saint Paul is the realization of Todd’s vision: A comfortable, classic neighborhood spot blending a rich culinary legacy with tastes of the future.

Settle in for the evening with steaks, salads, sandwiches, and specials while you take in a curated selection of Russell family art. Russell’s Saint Paul in the Press

Todd Russell isn’t just a St. Paul guy. He’s a Grand Avenue kid. After a brief time in college, a career in commercial real estate consulting in the Twin Cities kept him close to his roots. Eye On St. Paul recently met Russell at his W. 7th Street office to talk about his desire to get Grand Avenue back on the upswing.

— The Minnesota Star Tribune

When the family behind St. Paul's Tavern on Grand first announced that they would be closing back in January, some wondered what that long goodbye would look like. Russell: "I think the direction should be that we return to our roots. You know, Grand Avenue has, historically, been known for some of the best Mom and Pop shops in the Twin Cities and I think that we need to return to that place, and introduce these great, locally owned concepts."

— KARE 11

The [Winter Carnival] parade relocation has already drawn a new sponsor — Todd Russell, proprietor of the soon-to-open Grand Avenue restaurant Russell’s. Russell, who grew up on Grand Avenue and has been involved in Winter Carnival planning since 1989, said in a statement that he has watched Grand Avenue evolve since childhood and “we’re creating a new tradition that will not only bring families together but also revitalize this historic street.”

— Saint Paul Pioneer Press

Todd Russell grew up on Grand Avenue in St. Paul. Now he's opening a restaurant on the corridor, calling it a ‘way of giving back to a street that's really been good to our entire family.’”
